Description
Sium sisarum
OP
Skirret is in the same family as carrots, parsnips and parsley. It grows to be about four feet tall and can flower in its first season. It is a true perennial and will come back every year. It forms a small clump of thick storage roots. When cooked the roots have a sweet carrot like flavor.
Skirret seed germinates slowly and erratically over a long period of time. It is usually three weeks before the first germinations and six weeks before 50% have emerged.
