Connecticut shade tobacco is world renown and was historically grown under shade in the Connecticut River valley. It’s primarily used as a binder and wrapper for premium cigars, valued for its sweet, refined flavor and high quality. Plants grow very uniform and leaves turn a mottled yellow as they ripen.
Unfortunately, little to no CT shade is currently grown in the Connecticut River Valley, with the majority of CT Shade leaf seed being grown in Ecuador.
We’re proud to offer authentic Connecticut Shade Tobacco seed, grown on our own farm in CT, helping to preserve this prized heritage variety.
Start indoors or in a greenhouse 4-6 weeks before last frost date. Transplant after last frost.
